When Alex Ovechkin isn’t scoring goals for the Washington Capitals or acting like a loon on the streets of Washington D.C., he’s the very proud boyfriend to tennis’ own Maria Kirilenko. The two Russians have been dating since the end of last year and Ovi has been a loud and proud cheerleader during the NHL off-season, serving as a constant presence in her player box at Wimbledon and at last week’s Olympics. His enthusiasm is endearing in every single way.

He told the Washington Post that he now understands why his family and friends would get nervous watching his hockey games. “Right now, I [am] just watching her play, and I get nervous, because you think, ‘Jesus Christ. Come on. Do something better.’” So basically, Ovechkin is no different than any other hardcore tennis fan.

Ovechkin was a tweeting machine during the Olympics, where he watched Kirilenko beat Petra Kvitova to make the semifinals in singles and, alongside partner Nadia Petrova, upset the No. 1 team of Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond is the bronze medal match. As a result, many exclamation marks were spilled throughout the week.

Tourist, friend-maker, doting boyfriend. Here are some of Ovi’s best tweets from the Olympics.
