Maria Sharapova vs. Victoria Azarenka: U.S. Open live blog

Maria Sharapova and No. 1 Victoria Azarenka clashed in the U.S. Open semifinals on Friday. The match went the full three sets, but Azarenka held off Sharapova to win 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 and reach her first career U.S. Open final. After both making the semis, Azarenka and Sharapova will be No. 1 and 2, respectively, when the new rankings come out on Monday.

    Thanks Courtney, for mentioning the grunting in the Ferrer-Tipsarevic match.  The drawn out grunt by Ferrer could be compared to Azarenka's and Tipsarevic's could be compared to Sharapova, just that the men's grunting is obviously lower pitched - yet no complaints by viewers. Still, it's ridiculous to try to force the women to stop grunting just because theirs is higher-pitched. The discrimination must cease and cease quickly.
