Serena Williams tweets photo of severely swollen ankle
We can only assume this is what it appears to be — the right ankle of Serena Williams.

Williams collapsed to the court with an ankle injury in her first-round win at the Australian Open and then appeared to aggravate it in doubles the day before her quarterfinal match with Sloane Stephens.
In that 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 loss to Stephens, Williams called a medical timeout due to back spasms, possibly brought on by overcompensating from the ankle injury.
“I’ve had a tough two weeks between the ankle, which is like this big every day, and my back,” Williams said after the Stephens loss Wednesday.

LikeI love Serena, but I gotta say the angle of that photo looks a bit strange. I don't doubt she had a bad sprain and lots of swelling. I broke my ankle and tibia and the swelling was so bad I couldn't put a shoe on for two months - it wasn't as swollen as that looks.

LikeSerena is a consumate professional & a fierce competitor, she always gives her all, you can see her fighting through matches and refusing to quit. We all saw how nasty that ankle roll over was & whatever reason haters will always think she's suppose to be 100% for the rest of the way. WHAT A TROOPER, WHAT A LEGEND!

LikePeople were calling Serena a liar when she said she was injured. It's her right to justify that with a tweet. She has said in her interviews after the loss that all credit to Sloane but she can't hide the fact that she was injured but has made no excuses and applauded Sloane.
