Serena Williams gets in trouble for attempting to take Tiger Woods’ picture

It’s hard to keep track of Serena Williams’ whereabouts these days. On Thursday, she was in Chicago to support First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” youth fitness initiative. On Friday, she was in the gallery at the Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., watching fellow swoosh-wearer Tiger Woods.
But it seems like wherever she goes, Williams just can’t avoid the attention of officials:
Golf Channel cameras just caught marshal scolding Serena Williams for trying to take a photo of Tiger Woods.—

CBSSports.com has the GIF of the tournament official waving his hand Darth Vader style to stop her from taking a picture with her phone.
Williams tweeted about her newfound appreciation of golf etiquette:
Ok at this Golf tournament. Just saw @tigerwoods I understand NO golf Apparently u can't take pics. This security for mad and yelled at me—

Apparently u can't take pictures of golfers. In my Defense peeps always take pics of tennis players. 😉—

The best thing about the whole incident? Serena got her picture and tweeted it out anyway. No one stops the world No. 1.

I understood the rationale for preventing pictures in the old 35mm 'film' days - the noise of automatic winders and shutter clicks, and the occasional flash, was appropriately labeled a distraction to the extreme concentration of a golfer approaching a shot.
But with modern digital cameras, there is no noise, and with cellphones, there is no noise and no chance of accidental flash. So I truly don't 'get' the continued over-the-top, even thuggish, approach to picture taking. Like the old quandary, 'if a tree falls in the woods and nobody is there to hear it, does it make a sound?' ... if Tiger is on the tee, and someone takes a noiseless photo from the gallery, can it really be said to be a distraction to HIM? How? Tiger's visual focus is strictly on the ball. How is any golfer aware of any photo being taken in the current context.
It's obviously not about 'distraction' anymore, but either the tour trying to protect its exclusive video rights (i.e. money), OR just the irrational, mindless continuation of an antiquated policy beyond its appropriate life, out of pure habit - without any consideration of whether the original justification for the policy continues to exist.
The continuation of this policy is about as annoying as the continuation of some fans always yelling, 'get in the hole!', on putts.
People ridicule baseball players for not hitting cheese at almost 100 mph using a cylindrical bat with tens of thousands of fans sometimes screaming. And golfers get to have library silence....kind of ridiculous, hah hah.
@ReverendAl Tell me you're joking, please. Are you really going to play the race card on this issue? She was probably trying to take his picture right as he was playing a shot, which is extremely distracting. And patrons are scolded for it all of the time at golf tournaments. Black AND white patrons. AND Hispanic patrons. AND Asian patrons. See, it's not the race of the person taking the picture that matters. It's when they are taking it. Even Serena allowed that she probably needed to learn golf etiquette (at least I think that's what she was trying to say). And isn't Tiger marrying a white woman his business? I know, maybe you really are the Reverend Al Sharpton because that's all he ever does. Whether it applies or not, doesn't matter. Play that race card. The more the merrier, right, ReverendAl? Dude, get a life.
@rukiddingme @ReverendAl Yah, I gotta agree, but I don't like that term "race card". I don't think it has anything to do with it or you know Serena would've went off, she could take anybody at a golf course if she feels that is the issue, lol.
Obviously racism still exists in America! This marshal only wanted to put a black woman in her place! First Tiger marries a white woman, and now this! I am calling for an immediate boycott!
@ReverendAl Boycott of what idiot? Golf, Tennis, Blacks, Whites...What???
I know, let's have a spelling contest.
She needs to get a dictionary or spell-check app. for that 'smart' phone!
Pro golfers -- what a bunch of overpaid wussies. They need perfect conditions to hit a stationary ball.
Send the top golfers and golf marshals into the media photographers pit while Serena or Sharapova play.
@Michael9 take at look at the size of a tennis ball in comparison to the size of the racquet face (that would be the area covered by the "strings", Michael). Now look at the size of golf club-head's face (that's the part you hit the golf ball with, Michael). Look at the difference in the allowed margin for error--you can be an inch off on hitting a tennis ball and be fine. If you're one-EIGHTH of an inch off when hitting a golf ball, you're probably screwed.
@marker264109 @Michael9 Marker264109, the golf ball isn't moving you sorry twit. Wh7y is silence golden for them?
@marker264109 @Michael9 So? Try hitting a baseball at 100 mph w/ a cylindrical bat. Golfers are wusses!
wow, a tough guy on a key-board
@marker264109 @clemente21 @Michael9 ROFL! A tough guy golfer!
@clemente21 @Michael9
@ clemente, Dustin Johnson would snap you like a little twig
@marker264109 @Michael9 My golf handicap used to be 10. I'm usually the fastest in my group, regardless of distractions. In tennis, the ball moves 60 to 100 mph between the players (that's the moving blur you have to hit, marker). An 1/8 inch off on a stationary ball is not the same as inch off on a fast moving ball.
@marker264109 But the athletic ability needed is not even close. Which is why golfers can stay competitive well into their 50s and few tennis players play beyond 30. Golf might be challenging, but athletically speaking, it is more of a hobby than sport.
Michael, I went to college on a full ride for tennis (jr's, h.s. college, MoValley circuit), and I swear golf is harder for me... for me, I'm saying.
Peace out.
Nike controls all of the sports media outlets in this country They force stories about their brand and athletes on us every day. They use kickbacks, advertising and bribes to achieve this. Show you are tired of it and boycott nike!!
