Porsche has signed Maria Sharapova as its first global brand ambassador. The German car company announced the three-year deal on Monday.

This is Sharapova’s second endorsement deal with a luxury-car manufacturer after signing a three-year deal with Land Rover in 2006.

“This is a really special day for me,” Sharapova said in Stuttgart, Germany, where she’s defending her title at the Porsche Grand Prix this week (she was given a Porsche 911 last year after winning the title). “I have had the privilege to be associated with some of the best brands in the world, but now to be partners with Porsche is such an amazing honor.”

It’s quite a nod to the 26-year-old Sharapova that Porsche, a company that markets itself primarily to men, would select a female athlete as its first global endorser.

“Maria Sharapova is an exceptional athlete,” Porsche AG CEO Matthias Mueller said in a statement. “She combines top performance in her sports with elegance and power. These are precisely the qualities that are embroiled in our sports cars.”

    Maria is simply the best!!! There is no other woman player out there that compares to her.

     You must have your eyes closed, because time and time again, Serena has proved that SHE is the

     best female player in the world, and probably in the history of tennis.  Maria sells products well, but

     she will never be the best in the world and you can take that all the way to the bank!!!

     @TonyC1 Sorry Tony but there are others, hence the current #1 player Serena Williams.

     @texas54  @TonyC1 Each is own ...I like Maria too and agree with TonyC1.

    Do not like to watch Serena's antics ...she is too full of herself.

     @texas54  Let's face it...Maria is the look of Women's Tennis...Williams is just a beastly look...sorry but that's the truth

     @JustPeachy!  @TonyC1  Pleeeeese,  williams should not even be in women's tennis, she degrades the game. Williams is always trying to copy Maria. Whenever Maria comes up with a new saying or gesture Williams will try and copy it....Come On!
