So are we all following each other on Twitter now?

It looks like everything is copacetic between Sloane Stephens and Serena Williams. Stephens tweeted Tuesday that she spoke to Williams to straighten out the controversy surrounding her scathing comments in ESPN The Magazine.

“Great to see @serenawilliams & @sloanetweets have talked & figured it out. Not easy to grow up in front of world & do everything perfectly!” broadcaster and former tennis phenom Tracy Austin tweeted.

Earlier Tuesday, Williams took the high road when asked about Stephens’ comments in the magazine story.

“I don’t really know. I don’t have many thoughts,” Williams told reporters in Spain after defeating Lourdes Dominguez Lino 6-2, 7-5 in the second round of the Madrid Open, answering the one question posed to her about Stephens. “I’m a big Sloane Stephens fan and always have been. I’ve always said that I think she can be the best in the world. I’ll always continue to think that and always be rooting for her.”

Serena displayed the most class in not responding to Sloane Steven's comments.  Sloane needs to shut up and win some Grand Slams before she can stomp her foot and cry.  What a shame...Sloane...grow-up little girl.  All you've done is give this "Serena-Haters" fuel.  I am NO LONGER a FAN.   Go Madison Keyes!!

I wasn't the biggest Serena fan for many many reasons so when Sloane beat at the Aus Open I was really happy for her but when she was interviewed and said how easy it was to get to the semi and that maybe she should put a poster of herself up on her wall I thought, wow, what arrogance, clearly another Serena in the making.

    T.W.17227

@jacque p What you call arrogance is what I call being confident in one's self. You are blind as a bat if you don't think other players don't go out there believing in themselves. Either that or you know NOTHING about tennis or sports psychology. What athlete goes out there and says "Oh, maybe I might lose and that's okay?" NO great winner like Jordan, Bird, Magic, etc...just LOSERS...

Sloane is hardly honest.  Her behavior is not only childish it is unprofessional.  She seems desperate for media attention.  What has she done after her fluke win at the Aussie Open?  She boasted after the Open about how easy it was to get to the semi finals yet since then cannot come out of the first round of other events.  If she was so "honest and nice" after winning she should have said, "today I won against a wounded champ, I cannot wait to meet her again when we are both at our optimum health."  I guarantee you Sloane will never win a grand slam she has brought bad aura to herself by demeaning a fellow player and she has only proven herself to be the stereotype of the bitchy, jealous, angry black woman.

It's refreshing to hear someone honestly speak up...Good Job Sloane! I'm sure williams treatened her after those comments, just like the lines-person, that's why she had to tweet nice...

@TonyC1 Yes, she was so honest that she now claims she thought her remarks were "off the record" and the journalist fooled her.  First, if she was so honest she would say what she had to say to Serena and since she chose to say it to the media, why did it need to be "off the record?"  Second, if she is so honest why back pedal and blame the journalist for what she can't own up to.  While you may think she is honest; it certainly appears she does not know the meaning of integrity.

@TonyC1 Yes, saying she was a big Sloane Stephens fan and that she can be the best in the world is very threatening. Shame on Serena for being so nice about it.

Williams "I don't have many thoughts" Boy she got that right. What is she going to say...yes I am a phony...yes I like to portray myself as caring, but really I don't... I am mean, fat, and ugly and that is the truth...Sorry I don't have many thoughts...

Hey Sloane, you played in the Fed Cup meeting in 2013 and as I recall, since I was present, you didn't sign any autographs either.  Why call out someone on something that you yourself have done.  You are up and coming and very talented, but I guess if you think that Serena is not a good person then you aren't either, since you did the same damn thing.

I find it astonishing that every article I have read is titled with Serena having the negative spin, not actually calling out the fact that Sloane has made a scathing attack on Serena. It's just sad to think that when Serena is lifting her trophies, Sloane's only concern is that she was "deleted" on twitter. Don't come for Serena if she hasn't sent for you.

@TonyC1  @stashu  You two must be, what, 5'7" or 5'8" tall, if that?  Guess an amazon like Serena who is about 6' tall or more intimidates you.  She'd probably send each of you right unto your tookus with just a flick of her elbow!  And by the way, fellas, Serena WON AGAIN. Took the trophy in the Italian open and beat Azarenka.  As long as that gal has the power to chase down the shots the way she does & rams those aces down her opponents' throats, you two should keep your mouths and your keyboards off Serena.  She's the ONLY one who is keeping American tennis in the limelight.  Obviously, Sloane Stephens can't do it.  She again got her butt handed to her 6-2, 6-1, this time by Sharapova, before Sharapova withdrew from the rest of the match because of "illness."  Yup.  Illness at the thought of facing Serena again.  LOL

Wow.  Have you even read my comments?  Or did you intend to comment to someone else!!  If  you think for one moment I am anti-Serena Stevens, you are way off base.  I think that gal is terrific and said so several times.  I simply don't like the childish antics of Sloane Stephens, that' all!  She is 20 and it's time she grew up and acted professionally.

We think you are a non-achiever who lacks the confidence to speak in public. So you hide behind your computer and dish out hatred. You dislike someone just because one is black or does not look  like you, or worship with you. you area looser and the bad thing about it  is that you do not even know it! you need some help to assist you with your self confidence and self esteem!

I don't beat on people or insult them for what they were born with.  If Serena were a wispy little sparrow, which you obviously prefer, she probably wouldn't be able to ram those aces down her opponents' throats.  And I have no doubt that Maria will defeat Serena--she is after all considerably younger and always will be.

    tennisfan#1
    tennisfan#1

@TonyC1  @Tabby388  @stashu Surely, you jest!  In her wildest dreams.

Has she been sick every time she played her since 2004 or just last week in Madrid?

    TonyC1
    TonyC1

@tennisfan#1  @Tabby388  @stashu   To add to that, Tabby ,  I am just over 6' tall and 205 lbs, so weight wise Serena would certainly beat me. Course with her ghastly looks and the troll hair, I might be somewhat intimidated, I won't deny that. But I am not looking to go to combat with her, My Maria will do that and the next few meetings Maria will destroy her.

    TonyC1
    TonyC1

@tennisfan#1  @Tabby388  @stashu        Well I guess I would look at the other side of the coin and say Maria wasn't feeling 100% in Madrid, so that is why Serena beat her there. But at least she played through Madrid and didn't complain afterwards. She seemed to play good in Rome to a point anyway. So I expect Maria to beat Serena many times in the future.

No matter the results, matches between those two keep me on the edge of my seat.  Of course, I certainly much prefer that Serena trounces Maria.

    tennisfan#1
    tennisfan#1

@Tabby388  @TonyC1  @stashu According to Maria, she had the illness last week and it came on again.  I think the illness is called the Serena beat-down.  She caught it last week and felt it coming on again this week.

Obviously, based on the Serena's results this week in Rome, Maria did the right thing.  Great strategy.  At least now she can go in to the FO assuming she would have lost instead of playing and KNOWING she had lost.

Make that 13 wins vs that clown Maria in a row since 2004, and that makes Maria an even bigger LOSING B***H..lol...

Stephens did the right thing. A grudge match between these two only serves the media. It brings no glory to either woman and detracts from  what they both posses as highly regarded athletes.

@LJRich Yes, she did the right thing; however, it is unfortunate that she only did it AFTER Serena took the high road and continued to praise Sloan's game when responding to a question about the controversy at her press conference.

Well, Sloane Stephens lost again--this time to Sharapova 6-2, 6-1 in the Italian Open, before Sharapova withdrew.  Sloane apparently has to have a few servings of "crow pie" before she matures enough to concentrate on her game instead of autographs and friending and tweeting and talking too much.
