Roger Federer has released his 2014 tournament schedule, which includes a return to the Sony Open in Miami in March. In addition to the four Grand Slams and eight of the nine ATP Masters 1000s (he will skip the Monte Carlo Masters for a third straight year), Federer is scheduled to play the Brisbane International, Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, Gerry Weber Open in Halle, Germany, and the Swiss Indoors in his hometown of Basel, Switzerland. In total, the 17-time Major winner is scheduled to play 16 tournaments, two more than he had scheduled in 2013. Here is Federer’s complete schedule:

WERTHEIM: Predictions for the upcoming 2014 tennis season

The most notable hole in Federer’s schedule is the Davis Cup. Switzerland is set to play Novak Djokovic’s Serbian team in Belgrade in February and, as of now, Federer has not committed to playing the tie.

Attendance numbers at the Sony Open dipped last season, with both Federer and Rafael Nadal choosing to skip the otherwise mandatory tournament (by rule, both men are entitled to an exemption given their veteran status). Federer has not made the final there since he won the tournament in 2006.
