MELBOURNE, Australia — Day 3 was another scorcher at the Australian Open. The favorites rolled into the third round, as five-time women’s champion Serena Williams, three-time defending men’s champion Novak Djokovic and 2013 finalist Li Na won in straight sets. Williams matched Margaret Court’s Open era record with her 60th victory at the Australian Open.
Meanwhile, Sam Stosur and Casey Dellacqua gave the home crowd reason to cheer. Stosur, who has a poor track record at her home Slam, dismissed Tsvetana Pironkova 6-2, 6-0 to make the third round for the first time since 2011. And Dellacqua moved past the second round of a major for the first time since 2010 with a 6-3, 6-0 win over No. 18 Kirsten Flipkens. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie! Oi! Oi! Oi!
