ROME — Jerzy Janowicz upset eighth-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-4, 7-6 (5) on Wednesday in the second round of the Italian Open. The charismatic and emotional Pole celebrated his biggest win of the year by going full-Hulk on his Adidas shirt, ripping it with authority. Novak Djokovic and Carlos Berlocq would be impressed.

Janowicz, 22, was so pumped up by his third victory over a top-10 player that he started busting out of his top before he even shook hands with Tsonga. Once the pleasantries were exchanged, Janowicz finished the job.

Janowicz will face another top-10 Frenchman, Richard Gasquet, in the third round. He might want to bring extra shirts just in case.

Jimmy Connors’ memoir, The Outsider, comes out Tuesday, which means it’s time to dig up some classic pictures of Connors, his bowl cut and his trusty Wilson T2000.

Oh, and his shorts. His very tight, white shorts.

Evert responds to Connors’ comments in memoir

During No. 28 Grigor Dimitrov’s stunning second-round upset of No. 1 Novak Djokovic at the Madrid Open on Tuesday, I joked on Twitter that Dimitrov would easily be a top 15 player if he received a point every time he fell on the court. My observation was met with some skepticism, and now I feel compelled to set forth in an organized fashion the growing book of evidence that supports my basic premise.

Grigor Dimitrov falls down. A lot. And here’s the proof:

2013 Monte Carlo: To be fair, he hasn’t actually fallen to the ground yet in this picture. But we all know what happened a split second later.

She’s donned the boiler suit to caddy for Rory McIlroy in the par-3 contest and dunked a tee shot into the water, but after all the fun and games at Augusta National Caroline Wozniacki is back in WAG-mode as she supports her main squeeze from the gallery beside his father, Gerry.

Last week at the Family Circle Cup, I asked Wozniacki what it’s like to watch McIlroy from the gallery.

“A golf spectator is probably more like going out for a picnic,” she said. “You walk around and it’s nice and it’s chilled. But there you are not allowed to take pictures. You are not allowed to really have your phone on you.

“So I guess that’s even more strict than tennis is, but at the same time I like the atmosphere. I like to just have a walk around and feel like you are actually active doing something and not sitting down all the time.”

Wozniacki said it’s much easier on her nerves to watch in person than from afar.

“When I’m walking out there, I’m OK,” she said. “I’m not as nervous. But obviously if it gets tight, when he is in contention and he has a possibility to win, obviously I do get nervous because I have absolutely no control or power over it.

“But I think it’s worse to watch on TV because you are just sitting there and you have no clue. At least when you’re walking there you can see how he is feeling, if he is feeling confident, if he is feeling good about it. You kind of have a little bit of an idea. But if you just sit at home, it’s like, ‘OK, come on, just make the putt.’”

Well, not all business.

Caroline Wozniaki donned the traditional white boiler suit and green hat Wednesday to caddie for main squeeze Rory McIlroy in the traditional Masters par-3 contest, which takes place the day before play begins at Augusta National. When she was given the chance to take a swing off the tee, well, let’s just say she would have been better off hitting one of her famous moonballs. The form didn’t look half bad until she chunked it into the water.

“Well, it had spin on it. We can say that.” Gotta love the commentary.

“The divot nearly went farther than the ball,” McIlroy joked. “They get second serves in her sport.”

When Tom Rinaldi asked Wozniacki how the idea came about, the former No. 1 actually seemed a bit flustered. “Well … I don’t know. I just had a good deal with Rory. I get a really good paycheck out of this. I even gave him a special prize price, you know?”

“She did great,” McIlroy said. “It was just great to have her right there. It was a nice way to spend a Wednesday afternoon. You know, it’s her first time here at Augusta, and I just wanted to show her a good time and I think she really enjoyed it.”

It looks like a pretty low-stress job, particularly considering no man who has won the par-3 event has gone on to wear the Green Jacket that year.

So it’s cool, Woz. You can sabotage Rory. In fact, you should. A putter from 90 yards? Go for it.
